"There's Something Else Happening Here but You Don't Know What It Is."
This Clip from Todd Hayne's fictive biography of Bob Dylan, I'm Not There (2008) uses Surrealist cinematic technique to effect how emotion in the '60's counterculture differed from the mainstream. Dylan is played by a woman (Cate Blanchett) and portrayed as feminine, yet exhibiting often thought as masculine tendencies (think back to Marinetti and Valentine de Saint Pointe) while the song is a "cover" performed by a '90's counterculture icon, Stephen Malkmus (of Pavement). Haynes does not allow for a '60's nostalgia, though. The song get's interrupted by the reality of cultural warfare and racism that had a similar traumatic effect on the populace as whole as automatism did for the Surrealists. Anyway, check it out.
