This week’s readings were all interesting to me from Hannah Hoech, to the “Baroness”, to Mina Loy’s poems. My favorite overall selection is Mina Loy’s “Apology of Genius”. I think it brilliantly depicts the movement as a whole. I love “Our wills are formed by disciplines beyond our laws”. The idea that the power of the collective wills transcend the power of any societal restraint is so eloquent. It really gives meaning to life. No matter what the world challenges us with, whether it be unjust laws or whatever, the human mind and will always have the ability to overcome this all. “you may give birth to us or marry us, the chances of your flesh are not our destiny.” Mina Loy is quite aware of the fact that people can try to take everything from you: your friends, your family, your possessions – but no matter what, there is always a little piece inside of each and everybody that is impossible to take and that is your destiny. This poem is a beautiful reminder to people to always keep fighting on for what they believe in, no matter what the obstacles.
