10/12 Response
Reading Holocaust by Charles Reznikoff evoked an intense emotion from me with each line. The gruesome lyrics in this poem are traumatic and almost hard to read at times. The poems seemed to be telling an overall story instead of a poem. I liked the way he wrote it was definitely easy to read and evoked emotion with every line. At times I did not feel I was reading a poem because it seemed so much of a story book then poetry. I did enjoy that the references in which he was receiving this information was true and did come from a witness of each event. Being a Jewish man I am sure that writing this book was awfully hard and emotional for Rezniknoff. Reading Zukofsky's work about poetry and what is poetry I felt a lot of similarities between the question what is art? To him anything that offers a rhyme or rhythmic pattern can be categorized as a poem. Well in the art world that seemed to be true as well anything that was created or painted could be labeled art as well.
