Reading Charles Reznikoff's Holocaust piece was a little overwhelming. I have read things about the Holocaust in the past, but Reznikoff's way of portraying what happened is particularly intense. I like the layout he used while writing this poem. The way he puts things together makes them even more meaningful and powerful. The detail and descriptive language he uses is sometimes a little much to take, but really gets his point across strongly. It is interesting how he takes actual court hearings and puts them together into something that makes a great deal of sense and even has a pattern which is easy to follow. I was surprised to find these were hearings that he modified. It is made clear that he was interested in facts and not so much the person who was telling the facts. His main objective seemed to make known the true story of the Holocaust right from those who, unfortunately, experienced it first hand.
