Response 9/9

The most interesting part of Marinetti's Futurist Manifesto was that some of the points being made could still be relevant to today. While reading it seemed like it was just written recently, not a century ago. It felt like a work of writing that could've been written about things taking place now.

The part of the manifesto that I found to be the most bizarre is when he was talking about removing different parts of speech from poetry and other writings. He was saying that it was necessary to get rid of all adjectives, all adverbs, and to basically just use nouns. He believed that the basic syntax was the enemy in poetry and that the poems being written were not considered true poetry because of the syntax. This didn't really make sense to me because I don't understand how anything can be written and still make sense without these parts of speech. I also didn't understand how and why the parts of speech cause any poetry to be poor.

The one main part of the manifesto that has no relevance to today's time is the part about women's rights. That part I'm sure no one reading the manifesto today would agree with. He just looked at women as pawns in a greater game that in the end would affect men for the better. He wanted women to receive the rights they wanted, but only because it would infect the minds of the lesser men which he has so much disdain for. The manifesto wasn't necessarily hard to read, it just seemed long and rather redundant at times.
