9/16 Response

I actually enjoyed reading this selection of poems from Suicide Circus much more than the first selection that we were assigned to read. I don't know if this was because they were written later or if his poetry just became better as time went on. I didn't necessarily understand these poems any better than I did the first set, but I read these poems with more of an open mind after the discussion we had in class on Tuesday. It was interesting that he was writing these poems so that they were all connected somehow since they were a complete collection. Whether this was with a common theme or the fact that all of the heroine's names were connected somehow, it was apparent that they were meant to be read continually. He obviously cared about the woman he was writing about, describing her as having "iris blue darting eyes." It also seemed like he was a little bit weary of the woman as well, that she was capable of many things and he wasn't sure when these things were going to come out. These were definetely more interesting to read because it seemed like it was at least easier to connect to the story in the poems.
