11/9 Response

Mac Low writes about the meaning of art and the pleasure that it should bring to viewers directly and indirectly. I found it interesting while reading that he developed a style of writing based on chance but later found that you cannot write based on chance because each time you are going through the same processes and will eventually end with the same process. I found this similar to what Huidobro was writing about in his "Manifestos Manifest". Writing can not be purely unconscious because thinking and format do play a role in writing styles. I like how Mac Low gives the reader in "Poetry and Pleasure" his meaning behind art and poetry and what goes into making his own poems. He explains many different styles and techniques for writing poetry and systematic processes that he uses for each type. His poetry seems to have a lot of similarities to Gertrude Stein because he references her work several times throughout this article. I think that the systematic process and formats he uses correlate well with Steins writing. I think it is interesting how in different authors that we have read it is about the statements and ideas that are displayed through the authors works and with Mac Low he is saying art and writing should be about the pleasure that one gets from reading it along with the pleasure that author gets from writing a piece.
