Holocaust Part 2
The second part of Reznikoff’s book was horrific. The first part was pretty hard to read, but the second half was almost unbearable. It is amazing how he is able to take strict courtroom facts and inject such emotion and pain. I think that his work is so much more powerful because it is “anonymous” in that he doesn’t include names (except for one), making the reading as detached and cold as the Nazi’s were. This is unlike anything I’ve ever read about the Holocaust. Most books and literature about the Holocaust are personal stories that survivors have retold. Because Reznikoff doesn’t have any personal experience or memories to tell, he is forced to rely on the courtroom interviews. He skillfully collected and pieced together some of the most gruesome details from the most tragic and atrocious event of history.
