for 10/19

I think the surrealists realized the self imposed restrictions on art. Drawing on dreams as an example, writer's like Andre Breton realized that waking and sleeping/trance/drug-induced sensory input was just as valid as the happenings of everyday life. I'm not sure, but i think that maybe there's a subtle jaded tone in the writings-contemplating waking life had almost grown tireome to the surrealists? But as waking life takes the largest percentage of time, it was the main focus of artists-surrealists seemed to want to get to the more quickly overlooked aspects of life The nature of dreams is like no artist had depicted before; Duchamp experimented with abstract paintings...realists used observance to capture the details of life. Surrealism is a combination of both: Abstract concepts applied to photorealistic details.
Vincent Huidobro was mistaken in his concept of dreams. They are very much under our control if we are in the right state of mind. I wonder if Gorrillaz's video "feel good inc" was inspire by Desnos's "Mourning for Mourning," both have images of floating islands and lighthouses.
