10/4

I enjoyed reading about Marcel Duchamp’s mixed media artwork. Duchamp actively sought out to question things that others thought of as absolute. “…experiments in provocation, the products of a conscious effort to break every rule of the artistic tradition, in order to create a new kind of art – one that engages the mind instead of the eye, in ways that provoke the observer to participate and think.” Duchamp used humor instead of anger to engage his audience and allow them to create their own ideas and use their imaginations while viewing his artwork. I found his Mona Lisa piece to be funny. Many of his works seem to be very well thought out, involving some sort of plan and organization. I was surprised to read in his interview that he used little to no planning or organization and found it difficult to remember how some of his pieces came together.
