10/21
The 1920’s have been classified as a “roaring” time period in the United States. It was a time when Prohibition was enacted, flappers and speakeasies dominated the underground world, and women’s suffrage were all hot issues. The women of this time period had a fighting spirit and were determined to achieve their end goals, facing adversity from all directions. Women from the surrealist movement were able to stand up for themselves and create imaginative and inspirational works that spoke to both moral and political virtues. Personally, I’d be lying if I said I knew much about the Surrealist movement. This week’s reading made me appreciate art as a whole. The fact that many artists go unknown propels me to seek out support these significant artists by appreciating their work.
