Response to readings 9/9

After doing all the readings for today and diong some individual research on especially Marinetti i am dumbfounded that this guy who had all this fire would actually lose his movement to the war that he so hastily called for. Saying that war is " THe only hygiene of the world". I really wish i knew what he thought after the first world war and then even more Towards the end of the second as he passed away in 1944. Especially the first world war left him disheartened that he couldn't Bring his ideas to the forefront of Italian minds. Overall I think Marinetti did though succeed in getting people to think and he was not forgotten as he would have hoped, but i believe that to be a better thing because despite the difference in times i still think some of his words ring true especiall in the contempt for women. Which he did not mean do not appreciate them , but to not treat them as we have been conditioned to do. He wanted us to break free from the years of treating women as fragile and therefore making ourselves easily manipulated and weaker in mind because we will fall into sentimentality. This concept all of the articles talk about a lot and i think this is especially one of the things that rings most true we need to live more openly and instead of holding back because we feel it will hurt another, because if we dont say it our minds will be lost again in the idea of the past. Instead we should be open and release ourselves from the constraints of jealousy, And idealistic LOVE.

nOW IN THE poetry i found it very interesting most of them were written as if you were on a walk with the author and were memorizing everything that you saw in awesome detail, but succinctly so not to use too many adjectives. Also they all did not have the word I in them anywhere which Marinetti wrote about in his manifesto.

Now the Feminine Manifesto i liked even more it called out all women to be stronger which i think is still relevant today. And i believe we can see the change in men who have accepted sentimentality because more and more men today are becoming like women of old its very funny. YOu can see that these writings also were probably some of the beginnings of the free love movement especially when you find out that Mina Loy was once a lover of Marinetti's while she was still married to her first husband.

Overall the questions i have after reading these articles and Poetry i really wonder how all of these ideas have made real implications in our future because a lot of movements came from the basis of this futurist movement. Maybe even the science fiction idea of a half man half machine who knows what else.
