How to Write
I agree with what others have been saying about Gertrude Stein’s “How to Write.” It is challenging to get through her lengthy ramble. It is also difficult to pick out things about her writing to talk about in this blog post. Similar to her other work, she continues to use words that sound similar within sentence and phrases. “May. May Rider. Mary Riding. Minna Riding, Martha Riding, Melanctha Riding.” She seems to go from one thought to another. Her writing shows her thought process while writing but never seems to conclude to a bigger idea. I feel like her work is important to her and other writers during this time, but does not clearly present her ideas to the audience. It is difficult to extract the ideas and importance of her work.
