9/30

I really enjoy the Dada style of writing. It is very quick, eye-catching, and entertaining. The review is written in the Dada style and it is reviewing Dada art itself, very similar in a way to Stein's “How to Write”. It also read like a manifesto of sorts, with Picabia shouting and stating things. I also like the fact that the art they were making was very “for the people” kind of stuff. They used found objects such as garbage, pipes, old newspapers etc. to make their work without a lot of pretension. It was great to see them take some of the things from Futurism and try to make it really new and fresh. I didn't get much of a political feel from the readings but it most certainly is there. But I guess the question is, what was the Dada movement's main point? Was it making art or was it about political change? Or was it maybe about something different altogether?
