9/21 Response
After reading the poems and the excerpts from How to Write, I'm a little confused by Gertrude Stein. The words seem like they're out of order and that they're hapharzardly placed in the sentences. They obviously can't be just randomly place but it's hard to understand how they make sense together and as a whole. It's interesting because she jumps from one thought to the next without much of a transition and it can be hard to follow at times. At least with Kruchenykh's poems it was clear that there was a purpose behind each of his poems, but with Stein it's hard to see where she was trying to go with her writing. It's almost as thought you could open any page in How to Write and start at any point on the page and you would be fine reading from there because there really isn't a clear beginning or a clear end to her writing. Each paragraph is a whole new idea.
