12/2 Response
In last class we discussed the similarities between science and art and I was not sure what those were. Well while reading chapter 4 Saper makes it very clear the correlation between science and art. He expresses it as "the poets explore the laws of layout, typography, and poetry the way students of the natural sciences study the laws of physics, chemistry, or biology: they run experiments." I never realized how art could be a science but I find it interesting that although completely different areas they are both set up and gather data on either language or poetry or biology or chemistry. I found that very interesting when the author presented the information in chapter 4. Also I found it interesting the idea of concrete art because while reading I was wondering how can an individual create a piece of art that is lacking a symbolic meaning? Even if the mind is free while drawing I believe there is still a sense of idea of attachment that the artist would convey through the piece even if it is simple.
