Ultra Manifesto
At first, the Ultra Manifesto, like many avant-garde movements to me, sounded a little bit ignorant of the accomplishes of the past. But when I thought about it, the Ultra Manifestoa did a really good job to separate it from the ignorance. By saying that the "Ultraists have always existed" expressed a sense of unity with the past, something that I have not noticed with some of the other movements. I think a lot is owed to past innovators and the manifesto acknowledges this also. The manifesto expresses their presence as a result of the evolution of man and literature. They do not need to completely disassociate themselves with the past because past artists helped them to get to where they are. I also thought the idea: "Let us not presume to rectify the soul, or even nature. What we are renewing are the means of expression". They weren't claiming that past poets and artists lacked the emotion or feeling to write meaningful pieces, but that they just went about it in a different technical way.
