What I have read by Anne Tardos about Jackson MacLow and also his works I have read thusfar make it clear to me that he was a very successful man. It is impressive how he wrote not only poetry, but also musical pieces and much more. He wrote his work in such a way so that it would allow improvisation. I find this interesting because not many artists would allow their work to be modified, this is a respectable trait MacLow obtains. His attitude towards art is also unique. He believes art is meant to bring pleasure to peoples lives. Whether it is art that brings pain, followed by pleasure or art that causes people to see beauty which leads to pleasure. He strongly believes every form of art should result in pleasure. MacLow also resorts to Zen Buddhism which inspires his ideas about impersonal style. MacLow believes in creating art that many will be able to find beauty from, which will ultimately lead to finding pleasure in what they are reading, seeing, or hearing. Overall, I feel I am interested more in MacLow' work than some of the previous artist's work we have looked at.
