Holocaust

I love to read and learn about the Holocaust, so this week’s reading from Reznikoff really appealed to me. I think that the Holocaust was one of humanities darkest times, and I find it fascinating to learn how Hitler brainwashed most of Germany. The things they did to Jewish people were inhuman and seem so surreal. It’s interesting that Reznikoff was able to write his book without using any of his own words. He took clips from government records and Nazi trials to construct his work. He’s able to create deep feelings of sorrow and pain in simplistic and plain English. The atrocities committed in the name of Adolf Hitler are, simply put, insane. How one man could influence an entire country to believe that the Jews were responsible for Germany’s poor economy is beyond me. Reznikoff successfully crafted a gripping, painful, and graphic description of Germany in the 1940’s. Overall, it was bittersweet to read this. I love learning about the Holocaust and history, but it’s very painful at the same time.
