10/14

This second half of Holocaust was really hard to read not because of complexity but because the crude yet real portrayal of what was happening to the Jews. I don’t see how Charles Reznikoff, born into a Jewish household and community could describe these events so coldly. The way he writes is though there is almost a lack of emotion or any feeling what so ever. His work shows no bias in the way he writes only the cold reality of what is happening to these groups of people. I feel like by Reznikoff doing this he is really taping into the sensationalism of the events though. The lack of emotion actually makes you evoke emotions as if you were actually part of the event. When tragic events happen close to home how do you react, for the most part people lack emotion because your senses are so overwhelming you show no feeling at all. That’s how I feel this book seems like it was made.
