Stein's How to Write was something I had a hard time following. It seemed like if you reread everything that maybe you would attain some type of meaning out of it, but that does not seem true. The irony of her writing was interesting though. Many times she would have sentences that stated "This is not a sentence." Obviously it is though, or at least in my mind it is. It makes you think. What is a sentence. Does it always have to convey a meaning or can it just be filler. Meaning it is grammatically correct, but it does not offer you any possibilities of where you can go with it. The more I read her book the more I understood what she was trying to say, or not say, I think. You are supposed to be able to get around what sentences are supposed to be and not what they have to be.
